To join the Erasmus Mundus Master's Programme (EMHRPP), you must follow these steps:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible for the programme, you need:

- A first degree from a recognized university with 180 credits or equivalent.

- At least two years of work experience in human rights.

- Proficiency in English, demonstrated by passing English B/English 6 or equivalent tests like TOEFL or IELTS.

Selection Criteria:

Tips that made my application:

First, I began early to prepare my application documents (I started as early as March 2023 but submitted in Oct 2023). Thus, I had enough time to repeatedly go through the course page and my application documents by myself. Importantly, this page contains very helpful materials to assist you.

Second, take time and choose a programme(s) that directly aligns with your experiences and future goals. Do a detailed study of both the scholarship and programme in question.

Third, in my SOP, I established a ‘strong’ and ‘convincing’ link between my first masters, the intended Erasmus programme (demonstrated how the ‘latter’ would build on the ‘former’ and advance my career goals) and my work experiences. Equally, I illustrated the foundational role played by my undergraduate programme. Strategically, I highlighted my proposed dissertation topic, my reasons for it, and connected it to one of the staff whose research interests resonated strongly with the topic. By so doing, I practically established that he/she could be my supervisor. Hence, the choice of the university/country as final programme mobility path. 

Above all, there should be harmony between your CV and SOP/LOM. Your Recommendation Letters need to align too. All of these key documents should be pointing to the same direction and you should demonstrate ‘passion’ in these documents.

Lastly, before I started the application, I took about 12 MOOCs that are directly related to the programme. And all featured in my CV with links to the certificates. Equally, I reached out to a past student of the programme and got some invaluable tips too.

Prior to the start of my application, I came across this page and I checked almost all the previous awardee’s post to note what they did differently. I wrote IELTS (7.5) and I took relevant MOOCs  that aligned with my program.

Also, I tailored my motivation letter to the programme structure and emphasized on my previous academic/professional experiences relating to the mobility track I chose.

- Tips that made my application successful - I recently just found out about this page after a friend of mine told me about it (she is also an Erasmus scholar). I once tried to apply for the scholarship upper year, but it did not work out. Then I decided to choose a different program that is very similar to the first one I put in for. The program required that I write a letter of motivation, a project proposal, a full breakdown of a sample project that I had worked on in the past that is related to the field (a thesis), and a post-partum essay on a given subject related to some real-life projects that exist. I took the time to research everything asked of me one after the other, and I composed all my writeups accordingly, approaching them one at a time. I also made use of Chat GPT for grammar checks, and coherency, and to ensure that everything make sense. 

For my motivation letter, I had to highlight how important being a part of the program is to me, and I stated all my expectations, as well as future plans.

What I think made my application stand out was my undergraduate thesis on flood risk (published) and my current work experience (GIS for risk assessment) - which are all part of the program's objectives and learning outcomes.

I therefore encourage applicants to tailor every aspect of their application towards the OBJECTIVES and LEARNING OUTCOMES of their various programs. 

This was the first experience with a scholarship interview, and I must appreciate two current Erasmus scholars that supported my interview preparation - Osita Odoh and Emmanuel Oguchi.
